Dr. Qiong (Joan) Zhang
Assistant Professor, PI

I am a biogeochemist interested in understanding the interactions of the biosphere and the environment. I focus on studying the biogeochemical prcesses that control the cycling of various trace elements and how different environmental conditions impact on the marine ecosystem.

Le Huang
PhD Student (2022-now)

Le obtained a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science from Xiamen University. Then she studied as an MSc student in Marine Systems and Policies at the University of Edinburgh. As her MSc project, she was interested in mapping the habitat suitability of marine ecosystems. Her research interests in marine science drive her to pursue a Ph.D in Marine Environmental Sciences at HKUST. She is developing a focus on the interplay of trace metal and light intensity on the growth and photosynthesis of marine phytoplankton.

Qun Ma
MPhil Student (2023-now)

My research focuses on how environmental factors affect the global distribution of Coccolithophores and models used to predict the ecological nich shift of phytoplankton in the future. Also, I am very interested in the distribution of different trace metals in coastal waters and oceans.
